Soap Dish Update

I was looking for something updated to put on my soap dish

(other than just buying a bar of fancy soap)

I had these 4 ivory bars 

stood them up

wrapped them in burlap ribbon, velvet ribbon 

and then added some ornaments for a festive look

First "Major" Injury

We had our first injury that was not just a head bump or red spot

We had blood.

Traumatizing.

Elise and Lilly were playing under a blanket and Elise fell and 

bit into her lip

There she is with her little swollen lip

and with in minutes she forgot all about it and was back

to playing with Lils..

Sweater Pillow

I am in the process of trying to dress up our beige couch

but I still want to have some neutrals as we are planning on 

moving in a few months and I am not sure what the walls or floor

will look like

So I decided to cover an existing pillow with a sweater 

The sweater is a soft thick creamy material that I knew would look great 

Apparently Pottery Barn had the same idea as me 

ha ha.

except theirs is $39.00 and mine was practically free

I just cut my sweater into a square the size of the pillow

turned it inside out and sewed three sides

turned it right side out, stuffed my pillow back in

and hand sewed the last edge

paired up with the Poinsettia Pillow

and an awesome throw from TJ Maxx

cozy and perfect for winter! 

Tissue Paper Votive Holder

We made these votive holders in m.o.m.

(Moms on a Mission)

We started with glass votive holders

added velum word pieces with Mod Podge

and added either pieces or strips of tissue paper

and dabbed a final coat of Mod Podge over top

This would make a great gift

with or with out the words added in

Police Ball 2010

Red dress. check.

Red shoes. check.

Babysitter. check.

Russ and I finally had a night out

for the first time in months!

(Russ does not work for Milwaukee Police but with his new position

works closely with some of the officers)

We attended a police ball to honor officers who had shown extraordinary 

bravery and courage in the line of duty.

All of those awarded either had to fire their weapons

or had been shot in the line of duty.

It was truly an honor to recognize them and their families.

Poinsettia Pillow

I fell in love with this pillow from PB

and then found this tutorial from Uncommon

and made my own version using 1/2 yard of white felt

and some left over bells that were actually from our wedding favors

I did not sew my felt leaves on..

I hot glued them..

purely for lack of time and energy..

more pillows to spice up my overly beige couch coming soon...

Yarn Jars

What to do with old canning jars and yarn remnants?

Make them into thrifty fall decor!

I originally had the idea to make vases for the girls birthday party

I had more yarn and more jars so I decided to make 

some fun jars for friends

a great idea that my friend Kelly did with hers! 

the possibilities are endless with any combo of 

jar size, yarn, and ribbon..

Halloween 2010

I had originally gotten the girls fairy costumes for Halloween..

then we decided it would be fun to dress up too 

since we were going to two different parties..

So, we decided to make the fairies

munchkins from the Wizard of Oz..

clever..

And this was the final result

Russ and I made our own costumes

I sewed blue and white fabric onto a blue dress

I found Toto and the basket at a thrift store

The red shoes and the scarecrow pants and shirt

were from Goodwill, and the straw was a hula skirt cut up 

from a luau party

just so you get the full effect..

The second party we went to..

the girls went back to fairies

and Russ and I were too tired to dress up

And the girls looked adorable!

this fairy appeared to be scowling at me..

and all of their little friends..

complete and total fun chaos!
